eFrangipanis – Australia
The Plumeria obtusa is a species of frangipani which has wide (as wider as Plumeria rubra) dark glossy leaves. It’s a more tropical variety so it grows better in warm climates and is often called evergreen. The most popular obtusa is the Singapore which has large white flowers (yellow throat).
The White Magic frangipani has smallish cute, jasmine-like scented flowers. It is a dwarf, has thin branches and has long glossy leaves.
It is a unquie variety and often considered species of its own, Plumeria stenophylla. It’s also sometimes put into the Obtusa species and labelled “Plumeria obtusa var. stenophylla”.
The Singapore frangipani (epithets include the Evergreen Frangipani and Singapore White) is the most popular obtusa. It has strongly scented and large flowers, and has large glossy dark green leaves.
Plumeria sericifolia is a species of frangipani with one variety. It’s sometimes grouped into the obtusa species and labelled “Plumeria obtusa var. serificolia”.
It’s a bushy, fast growing, hardy, dwarf frangipani with glossy leaves which ar thinner than other obtusa leaves but thicker than stenophylla leaves.
A number of years ago, we kindly received a few sericifolia cuttings. We have been doing our best to propagate them and make them available but we still only have a limited number.
The Petite Pink is an attractively shaped dwarf evergreen frangipani. It requires suitable conditions and a warm climate to grow well.
